Former Scion FR-S Continues As The Toyota 86

So, Toyota has released their plans to retire Scion. For serious fans, it may seem like nothing can offer consolation.

In times like these, when the whole world seems topsy turvy, it’s important to remember that the Scion spirit will live on in a number of different models. Toyota has plans to rebadge the FR-S coupe, iA sedan and iM hatchback Scion models as Toyota models.

The former Scion FR-S model will now be sold in the United States as it has been all around the rest of the world, as the Toyota 86. While no longer a Scion per se, the 2017 Toyota 86 will still bear those lovely features that made the rear-wheel drive sports car so popular in the first place. It will still have the boxer engine, and all of the advantages that come along with it. It will still have be stylish as ever and fun as all get-out to tune.

Almost as if a consolation to fans, the 2017 Toyota 86 will also show some exciting improvements. Toyota tells us that the former Scion 86 will feature a “larger center intake,” “re-configured LED front headlamps and turn signals,” and “revised shock tuning and a spring rate change.” Toyota plans to pull the curtain back on the 2017 Toyota 86 at the New York International Auto Show.
