Come Out for the Fair Lawn Street Fair

There is no better time of the year to get outside and enjoy the company of good people than the Fall season. The leaves are falling and changing color, the weather is cooling down, and the best flavors of coffees and drinks are coming out. This is also the prime time for fun street fairs.

That’s why everyone came out to the Fair Lawn Street Fair in New Jersey on October 9th. This event, which is held only held two times a year, gave locals the prime opportunity to support local businesses and vendors.

Approximately 25,000 visitors were expected this year, and this amount came out to purchase locally made craft goods, foods, and drinks from over 200 artists, crafters, and vendors.

If you are someone who would like to try their hand at selling their handmade craft goods, we encourage you to come out during the next Fair Lawn Street Fair and set up a table. There is no better way to get your products noticed. All types of vendors are welcome. Visit the fair’s website at to learn more about this great event and how you can sign up to sell your wares at the next one.

Why It’s Better to Service Your Vehicle at a Dealership

Your car is one of your most important assets. It allows you to travel to work, take your kids where they need to go, see friends, get food, and all other kinds of important life activities. Unfortunately, many people do not treat their cars as they should. Here is why you should service your car at a dealership.

Dealership mechanics are backed by major car companies, which means the car companies put their word behind their service technicians. Local mechanics range from very good to very bad, but you know exactly what you’re getting when you take it to a dealership.

Better Tools

As they are backed by major corporations, dealerships often have the latest and most effective tools for their mechanics to use. Local garages can’t always afford access to these tools right away.

More Organization

Dealership garages are generally much cleaner and more organized than local garages, which leads to efficiency and less problems. There are also usually nicer waiting areas for customers at dealerships to allow you to wait in comfort.

While it’s always good to support locally owned business, you simply don’t always know what you’re getting at a local mechanic. When you’re talking about your car, one of your most important investments, it’s often better to go with the sure thing.

Epic United States Road Trip

United States national parks are renowned for their natural beauty, land formations, and recreational activities. That’s why Randal S. Olson, a researcher at the University of Pennsylvania, released the newest edition to his growing list of epic road trips. The latest list takes travelers through 47 United States national parks.

Celebrating the 100th birthday of the National Park Service, the epic United States road trip is designed to bring travelers from around the country to see the natural beauty of the parks. A total of 27 states have national parks but, since Olsen’s guide only accounts for driving, Hawaii, Alaska, and United States territories aren’t on the list.

In all, the epic United States road trip traverses 14,498 miles and starts in Acadia National Park in Maine and stretches to Redwood National and State Parks in California.

To create the route, Olson used Gurobi TSP solver, an algorithm designed to find the shortest and most efficient route to hit a specific number of destinations in a short amount of time. Thanks to the algorithm, Olson estimates that this epic road trip will take two months to complete.

Here at Glen Toyota, we’d be thrilled to take such an epic road trip across the United States!

Signs You Need New Brakes

Keeping track of the braking system is something drivers tend to forget about or simply overlook. As one of the most important safety systems in a vehicle, ensuring that your brakes are in top condition should be a priority for most drivers. Fortunately, modern braking systems give plenty of warnings before they need to be replaced. Here are a few signs you need new brakes from us here at Glen Toyota.

  1. Screeching – Created by metal rubbing against metal, modern braking systems make a high-pitched screeching sound when the brake pads are nearly gone. Loud enough to be heard with the windows rolled up, the screech shouldn’t be ignored and drivers would do well to make a service appointment sooner rather than later.
  2. Seeing – Did you know it’s possible to actually look at your brakes on modern vehicles? By looking through the wheel spokes, drivers can see what’s left of the brake pad pushed against the rotor. If there isn’t at least a quarter inch of pad left, make a service appointment to have your braking system inspected.
  3. Vibrating – Vibrations in the brake pedal are a sign of warped rotors and indicate that the brake pad can’t grab the rotor’s surface evenly. Generally caused by long periods of braking, like when driving down steep hills, a vibrating brake pedal warrants a trip to a certified service department.

Have a Picnic in Fair Lawn to Celebrate National Picnic Month

As the end of summer draws near, it’s time to take a little break and celebrate National Picnic Month. Here are some of the best places to have a picnic in Fair Lawn.

  • Henderson Park. According to some Fair Lawn residents there is an “undiscovered” section of what is called Henderson Park. It is at the north end of 11th Street just before you reach Henderson Boulevard. It features a wide open grassy area with mature trees that feels like you’ve stepped out of the city. It doesn’t have any picnic tables, so you will have to bring a blanket. Watch this video to see where to find this unique spot.
  • Grove Park. Just a little ways from Fair Lawn is Grove Park in Ridgewood. This small 32-acre park is a beautiful place to enjoy a picnic and take a walk through the woods.
  • Memorial Park. Here in Fair Lawn, this wonderful park has something to offer for everyone. Take a walk along the Passaic River, take a dip in the sand-bottomed Memorial Pool, and catch a game of baseball. And, don’t forget to bring your picnic.

Where is your favorite picnic spot in the Fair Lawn area?

The Importance of Summer-Ready Tires

The summer heat is here and so are the summer troubles. Cars work very hard in the summer, especially their tires! That’s why having summer-ready tires is important.

Your tires are important. Obviously, since they’re what keeps your car rolling! Unfortunately, they’re put under more pressure (literally) in the summer months when the pavement is hot.

AAA Mechanic Richard Santiago warns about the danger of tires on hot roads, “You’re driving on very, very hot roads. It’s definitely going to have a substantial impact. Heat friction definitely causes a lot more pressure to build up inside of the tire.”

He knows what he’s talking about. During the summer months, tire-related problems are the most frequent calls that AAA gets.

Keeping the proper PSI is essential to maintaining the life of your tires. In the summer, heat outside can expand the pressure inside of your tire. So even if you start the summer with proper PSI, your tire might gain pressure instead of lose it. This is when blowouts happen.

It’s also essential to make sure your tires aren’t underinflated. The hot pavement can wear down your tread easily.

Toyota v Honda

When America was in need of fuel-efficient cars, both Toyota and Honda saw their opportunity and they took it. Although there wasn’t much love for foreign makes, both Japanese automakers found their place in the American market. It’s taken the American brands nearly 30 years to catch up to the Asian automakers and for good reason.

Both brands employ the Kaizen system where employees and managers work together to increase efficiency in the workplace. Although Americans taught the Japanese the Kaizen system during the reconstruction following World War II, the system isn’t used in the United States.

Today, the two brands are constantly going tire-to-tire to wins the hearts of American drivers. Both automakers have studios and manufacturing plants based in America to appeal specifically to American drivers.

Toyota and Honda have solidified their place in the automotive market, staking their claim in the top five bestsellers. The Toyota Camry has maintained its position as the bestselling car in America for the past 14 years. In January 2016, the Camry sold 26,848 units. The Honda Civic came in second with 26,741 units sold. Rounding out the top three, the Toyota Corolla moved 22,362 units.

With the Honda Accord sitting at number five with 20,765 units, it isn’t about to challenge the Camry without a significant increase in sales. The Nissan Altima took the number four spot with 22,156 units sold. Another Japanese brand, Nissan also makes use of the Kaizen system.

Why Buy a Toyota

With so many automakers in the market, it can be hard to choose the right car for you. Friends and family likely have their own suggestions while reviewers and top magazines have different picks. Here at Glen Toyota, we can answer the most important question of all: why buy a Toyota?

  1. Resale Value – In addition to offering affordable new models, Toyotas tend to have higher resale values as well. The brand typically dominates Kelley Blue Book resale values. In fact, both Toyota and Lexus won the “Best Resale Value Award” at the 2012 Los Angeles Auto Show.
  2. Lifespan – As long as you keep up with regular maintenance, there’s no reason your Toyota won’t be on the road for many years to come. Known for quality and reliability, a whopping 80% of vehicles sold 20 years ago are still on the road today. There isn’t any other automaker who can say that.
  3. Safety – Toyota models generally earn top safety scores from both the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). As a matter of fact, the 2016 Toyota Camry earned five stars overall from the NHTSA and the IIHS named the Camry a “Top Safety Pick+.”

Why Take Road Trips in a Toyota

There are plenty of vehicles to take road trips in and while many choose the average sedan or crossover, that can get expensive. If you plan on heading across the country, a more fuel efficient car will save you a good amount of money. That’s where Toyota comes in. Here’s why you should take road trips in a Toyota:

  • Money – Fun fact: you can travel the entire United States in a Toyota Prius for about $500. That’s cheap for any vacation, let alone traveling the entirety of the United States of America.
  • Space – Believe it or not, the Toyota Prius features an absolutely incredible amount of space. With enough room to fit a small mattress with the rear seats down, there are few vehicles that can compete in sheer amount of space.
  • Comfort – With the sheer amount the Prius has to offer, avoiding hotels is easy. You won’t be too hot or cold either. Thanks to the hybrid system, climate control can run all night without using much gas at all. Climate control will run off the battery and the engine will turn on in order to charge ever so often. Even better, the engine is so quiet that you won’t even notice it’s on.
