Toyota Veterans Association Supports Returning Soldiers

Will James, president of Toyota’s Georgetown, Ky. plant said recently, “It takes a strong, happy, healthy team to build great cars, but more importantly, we’re a community here. And that means providing for our team members beyond a paycheck.”

Mr. James is partly referring to the fact that 10% of the employees at his plant have served in the military or they are active currently in the reserves, including Sgt. Tony Hendrichs.

Hendrichs had just been hired at the Georgetown plant when he was called to serve in Operation Desert Storm in late 1990. Hendrichs, a husband and father, was immensely relieved to find that he continued to receive paychecks and benefits while he was serving his country overseas. Many of co-workers went above and beyond to send him care packages and support letters.

These days, Hendrichs still works at the Toyota Georgetown Plant and chairs the Toyota Veterans Association, an organization designed to offer “support to soldiers returning to civilian life and supporting military families during deployment.”
